STEAM Night at CMS

STEAM Night at CMS
Chippewa

Students, staff and family packed the halls, classrooms and gym at Chippewa Middle School as they participated in the school's annual STEAM Night.

Students had the opportunity explore the subjects of science, technology, engineering, art and math in a variety of ways that evening.

Activities ranged from making a pocket lava lamp and a heat pressed custom pouch, painting kindness rocks, smashing tiles to make a mosaic and even making and eating ice cream!

The school's Robotics Club helped students code "Dash robots" to follow a maze line and shoot a basket at the end!

There were many special guests that night, including Aaron Fluitt, an Argonne National Laboratory Researcher, the Des Plaines Public Library who brought their "Bee Bots," and members of the NIRA (Northern Illinois Rocketry Association).

The Des Plaines Police showed students how they use different kids of technology on their jobs, which included flying their drone down the Chippewa hallway!

Flight Instructors from the Chicago Executive Flight School came to explain what different aircraft parts help with, have a paper airplane contest and answer general aviation questions.

A huge thank you to the Chippewa PTO for selling homemade baked goods that evening and thank you to all who came out that night to make it a success!
