Making a Masterpiece in the Mural Mosaic Club

Making a Masterpiece in the Mural Mosaic Club
Chippewa

Chippewa Middle School's Mural Mosaic Club is hard at work completing the amazing mosaic project they started last school year.

The club, under the direction of Art Teacher Ms. Carli Kanter and English Language Arts Teacher Ms. Erin Shanahan, anticipate that the mosaic will be completed next year.

The students in the club take on various roles.

Two students were tasked with breaking tiles into small pieces, first wrapping the tiles in a towel and then using a hammer to smash them.

The broken pieces are placed in different bags according to their color.

Three students worked on filling in the heart at the center of the mosaic mural, and spent time looking for different shades of red tiles to give it the perfect look.

Another student concentrated on glueing tile pieces around a blue flower, while others worked on completing a large green flower in the upper right corner of the mosaic.

If the students found a tile that was close in size, but needed to be trimmed, Ms. Kanter used a special tool to round off the edges and resize it.

The students had a great time collaborating on the project and are looking forward to completing it next school year.
