This is the second year that the Chippewa Middle School drone soccer club has been meeting under the guidance of Ms. Caitlin Hatta and Ms. Alicia Koepke.

Last year the students in the club built the drones piece by piece, programming them and learning how to fly them.

On this day, the lesson focused on the drone's batteries and how to determine if a battery has enough charge or not.

Before flying their drone, the students inspected the fan and the motor and they made certain that all of the pieces were tightened and secure.

The students also took out their flight logs from the previous year.

Just like an airplane pilot, the students are expected to keep flight logs every time they fly their drones.

The final step before taking flight was to make sure the batteries were charged.

The students then went to the hallways and the drones were ready for lift off.

They discovered that learning how to control the take off can be challenging because the joysticks are very sensitive.

The students had fun flying the drones and are looking forward to racing their drones against Algonquin Middle School and Iroquois Community School this spring.
