Chippewa Chess Club
Chippewa
Chippewa Middle School students in Chess Club meet after school on Tuesdays to share their enjoyment of the game.
The club, led by Chippewa Music Teacher Mr. Eric West, has been meeting since October and the students' chess skills have progressed as a result.
Each week Mr. West creates a bracket as to who will be playing against one another.
When a student wins a match they move on to play the winner of another game, while the students who lost play each other.
Some play using a chess clock, hitting the button on the clock to stop their time and start their opponents time again.
The game of chess helps the students improve such skills as problem-solving, critical thinking and strategic planning.
